How to make it easier to say goodbye to primary school

When the “grown-ups” leave primary school, it is exciting and thrilling for the pupils, because once the right secondary school has been found, it is not long before they start at the new school. Despite the anticipation, the children have to leave behind their favourite teachers and the familiar class with whom they have spent the last four years. And it is always difficult for the teachers to say goodbye to their protégés. It is now important to allay the children’s fears and answer their many questions about the end of primary school. Many teachers organise small discussion groups to show their children that they are not alone with their worries. Of course, it is just as important to motivate the children for the transition and show them that they can be proud of themselves so that they can start the new phase of their lives full of confidence. With all the preparation, the farewell comes quicker than expected and a good idea for the graduation or a small farewell gift has to be found quickly.

Ideas for graduation rituals

Even before primary school ends, you can prepare together with your pupils for their farewell to primary school.

  • Graduation newspaper: To remember the great time together, you can design a graduation newspaper together in class. This way, memories can be captured and the children can draw motivation from the challenges they have mastered.

  • Friendship book: Close friendships have developed during the four years of primary school, but many will part ways at the end of primary school. To ensure that these friendships are not forgotten, it is a good idea to make a creative friendship book.

  • Farewell song or rap: Music always brings joy and encouragement, so why not rehearse a farewell song or a farewell rap with your children? Parents are also sure to enjoy a little performance at a farewell party for fourth-graders. A recording of the performance could be shared via Sdui in compliance with the GDPR and the memory captured in this way. The consent of all parents to share the recordings can be obtained via Sdui with just one click.

  • Farewell party: Whether it’s a barbecue together or a party in the school garden – a farewell party is the perfect opportunity to spend time together with all the children, parents and teachers, to celebrate and reminisce. The Sdui app’s survey function makes it easier to arrange dates and you can use the News function to let parents know who should bring what.

  • Overnight stay at the school: A big sleepover party at the school gives the pupils another chance to experience something extraordinary in their classroom and spend a lot of time together. Parents and teachers can contact each other immediately via Sdui if they have any concerns – without private telephone numbers.
